A year ago, Brooke Covington lost everything when her beloved older brother, Jason, confessed to the murder of his best friend, Calvin. Brooke and her family became social pariahs, broken and unable to console one another. Brooke’s only solace remains the ice-skating rink, where she works but no longer lets herself dream about a future skating professionally.

When Brooke encounters Calvin’s younger brother, Heath, on the side of the road and offers him a ride, everything changes. She needs someone to talk to…and so does Heath. No one else understands what it’s like. Her brother, alive but gone; his brother, dead but everywhere. Soon, they’re meeting in secret, despite knowing that both families would be horrified if they found out. In the place of his anger and her guilt, something frighteningly tender begins to develop, drawing them ever closer together.

But when a new secret comes out about the murder, Brooke has to choose whose pain she’s willing to live with—her family’s or Heath’s. Because she can’t heal one without hurting the other.

My heart. My emotions. Heart aching, astounding story.

There some books out there, that no matter how much they break your heart, you cannot put them down. EVEN IF I FALL was one of those books. I knew that it was going be an intense book from summary, but it did not prepare me how intense it was going to be. EVEN IF I FALL is a book that will capture your attention from the start, and will have you wondering until the end. From the start, I couldn’t help but wonder: Did Jason do it? Did he kill his best friend, or was there something that we didn’t know? How can you not wonder about it? A person do not just goes out and murders his best friend, there had to be a reason behind it. Like Brooke I was curious, and I understand why she kept on pushing him to tell her, she was hoping that maybe he wasn’t guilty. Thought I noticed that she didn’t start asking him more questions about it, not until after she met Calvin’s younger brother, Heath. That did make me wonder if she was asking for herself, or for Heath. That was one of things that I loved about EVEN IF I FALL , there was some suspense added to it, and just like Brooke, I wanted to figure out what it was. The suspense is one of things that got hard to put the book down, because you wanted to know what happened, what the truth was.

Even if they did not want to admit, I saw a connection between Heath and Brooke, and it horrible that Calvin’s murder was the reason. I knew that was the reason that Heath would pick fights with Brooke, he was trying to deny the feelings that he was having. He was grieving. I cannot begin to imagine losing someone you love, to murder. How do you get over something like that? If it were me, I am not sure if I would be able to. I did hope that two of them would be able to move past it and be together. I wondered how long it take the two of them to see how much they cared about each other. I know that Heath wouldn’t agree to help her if he didn’t care about her. I loved reading the scenes between the two of them, seeing how their friendship progressed through the book. To me, it seemed that the time that they could be themselves was when they were with each other. I hated how others treated Brooke because of what her brother done. I don’t believe if fair to treat her like a murderer when it was her brother who killed someone. That’s what I loved about Heath, he did not treat her that way, though it was his brother that was killed. There was a part of me that wanted to hug Brooke. It wasn’t fair how she was treated due to somebody’s else actions.

EVEN IF I FALL was an emotional, heart breaking book and at the same time, it felt realistic. You could feel yourself relating to the characters, and by middle of book, it felt as if they became yours friends and in way they had. EVEN IF I FALL was the second book that I read by ABIGAIL JOHNSON and I am already in love with the author, her writing. I cannot wait to explore the rest of her books. Her writing will take your breath away and will have you craving for more. I can see that ABIGAIL JOHNSON is going be an author that I will love for years to come. EVEN IF I FALL is a book that you should check out if you like YA Contemporary with thriller in the mix.
