Genre: YA Fantasy Horror| Suspense
Format|Pages: Hardcover|360

Breezy remembers leaving the party: the warm, wet grass under her feet, her cheek still stinging from a slap to her face. But when she wakes up, scared and pulling dirt from her mouth, a year has passed and she can’t explain how.

Nor can she explain the man lying at her grave, dead from her touch, or why her heartbeat comes and goes. She doesn’t remember who killed her or why. All she knows is that she’s somehow conscious—and not only that, she’s able to sense who around her is hiding a murderous past.

Haunted by happy memories from her life, Breezy sets out to find answers in the gritty, threatening world to which she now belongs—where killers hide in plain sight, and a sinister cult is hunting for strange creatures like her. What she discovers is at once empowering, redemptive, and dangerous.

That was unexpected, not what I imagined it to be when I picked up the novel. There is so much to say about this novel, and right not my emotions are everywhere. If you love horror and want, a book that will grab your attention, SHALLOW GRAVES is that book. I came across SHALLOW GRAVES while I was at the library, getting some books and at the time I wasn’t aware that it was a debut novel. I feel like KALI WALLACE will be one of those authors that is going to go a long way, after reading her first novel and I am already craving for her next one. Her writing was beautiful and filled with a lot of emotions, and as a reader it’s not long when you feel the same emotions that Breezy was feeling. Plus there is a lot of mystery surrounding what happened to her, how she got murdered. That was my one question from the start, who killed Breezy and why? Part of me feels that Breezy might had been aware of what happened, but her brain blocked out that memory, till she was ready to remember and after I read it, it made sense why. I wonder that maybe it would been better if she did not remember.

Breezy, was a character you will not forget. Not only was her name awesome, but in general it was fun to read the story through Breezy’s eyes, and it was not long when I saw what Breezy saw and felt what she felt. I can’t even begin to imagine it, waking up in grave with dead man next to it and then come to realization that a year had passed. I can only imagine how scared she must have been, especially since she was not sure what happened to her at first, and why she could sense killers and kill them with her touch. That is a scary thought. I feel that if I had been in her situation, I would not handle it way that she had. I would have freaked out right away. That ending, that was sad, I felt so sad for Breezy when she realized she could never go home to her family again but it felt like she finally accepted it what she was. Dead. There were so much pain, anger and grief there and to die that young? I do not want to even imagine that. Breezy is a character that you can’t help but love.

I love that SHALLOW GRAVES had quite bit of mystery, suspense and action within the book. This was a first book that I read like this, that did not have any sort of romance, but it is also the sort of book that did not need romance. You will find yourself sucked into Breezy’s story, and even when you reach the end, you will be wondering: What happens now? What is going to happen with her now? Those were the thoughts that ran through my mind when I reached the end of the book. It had me craving for me, had me wondering about her. Part of me did not want me reach the ending, because I did not want for story to end. It’s a heartbreaking, beautiful story.

“There is no gravity. The only thing holding me to this planet is you.”

My name is Maxton and I’m a trader.

I live on a soulless planet where gravity, oxygen, and everything else are sold to the highest bidder on the black market. People are sold on the black market, too. You have to work really hard not to become one of those people. Pay your taxes, keep your friends and family close, and more than anything else—don’t get caught by the Militia. But all the rules changed for me the day I found her.

My name is Sophelia and I’m a stowaway.

I’ve been a slave for almost as long as I can remember. Waiting for the one day, one second, for my proprietor to turn his head so I could run and never look back. Now I'm on the run. And on a planet where no one is on your side and people would turn you in for a good meal or a piece of a silver, being on the run on Landu is the last place you want to be. Until he found me.

I won't survive without him.

I can't breathe without her.

(I received a digital copy through publisher and Netgalley, in exchange of honest review.)

I have been hearing about this author, and I actually heard good things about her from a friend of mine. THE OTHER SIDE OF GRAVITY was the first novel that I have read by SHELLY CRANE and once I did, I knew why people are fans of this author, she’s amazing and once you finish reading the novel you will find yourself craving for more right away. That was the feeling that I got when I finished THE OTHER SIDE OF GRAVITY and especially a cliffhanger like that, how can you not help but wonder what’s in store next for both Sophelia and Maxton? I did not see that coming, I was sure that they wouldn’t end up getting captured, well I was hoping that Sophelia would not get captured. I fell in love with both of their names from the start, they are not the type of names that you hear often in books, it was unique. There was a lot action in this book and there was always something going on and you couldn’t help but wonder what would happen next.

Cover for the novel was one of first things to catch my attention, besides the title. Isn’t gorgeous and unique? I feel like cover itself will have you curious and have you pick up the novel because you will be wondering. Besides seeing the author’s name, the cover caught my attention along with the title, I couldn’t help but wonder about it and I had feeling that it would turn out to be a book that I would love. I was right, because the minute that I picked up the book and started reading it, I could not get enough of the story. Every page, every chapter had me on the edge of my seat, wondering if this would be the moment that they would be caught. I cannot begin to imagine to be on run like they were, especially when so many people were looking for Sophie, but after a while I started to think that maybe they would be able to get away with it. But now I don’t even imagine of what might happen with her, till Maxton comes to rescue her.

Maxton and Sophie had an unlikely relationship, considering how the two of them started out when two of them just met. I was positive that he was going help her, considering how he was with her when he found out, only to turn her in later. I felt how betrayed she felt, it is no wonder she had trusting him for a while. As the book progressed, I understood why he did what he did. At start I was not sure if he actually cared for Sophie and I felt like Sophie was setting herself up for getting hurt, again. However as book progressed and the more time that the two of them spend with each other, I saw that Maxton developed feeling for her, just like she did for him expect she still had trouble letting him in, at least at first. You could see the bond, the attraction that two of them had when they were together and I found myself hoping that she will see, how much he cares for her. In the end my heart broke for Maxton, I can not imagine how it is to watch love of your life get captured, I am just hoping that they will be able to rescue her before it’s too late.

A beautiful, heartbreaking story. I know that after this book, I will be checking out rest of her books. I want see what adventures she has in store. Breathtaking and worth every page.

Tully Athens has always dreamed of following in the footsteps of her hero Michelle Payne. Of living up to the Athens name and becoming the third generation of women from her family to rule the track. But Tully’s never been sure she’s got the nerve, and when her mother is killed in a horse racing accident, her whole world is shattered.

Six months later, in the heat of a Queensland summer, sixteen-year-old Tully is ready to face her fears. But getting back in the saddle leads to a whole lot more than she bargained for, with an out of control crush on the boy from their rival thoroughbred farm – the gorgeous but cocky larrikin Brandon Weston – and a forgotten filly with stardom in her eyes . . .

When faced with the most difficult decision of her life, will Tully choose to train and race her new filly in Melbourne? Or will she sacrifice it all to fight for love on the land that feeds her soul?

It’s only when tragedy rips everything from her that Tully finds a strength and courage she never knew she had, in this action-packed novel of passion, adventure and determination.

I received this book from Netgalley, in exchange of honest review.

RACE GIRL was a first novel that I have read by, LEIGH HUTTON and I wasn’t even aware that it was part of a series at first, but now that I do, I am eager to check out the rest of book in the series. Have you ever come across a novel and in instant that you started to read it, you feel in love with the characters, and they become real to you? That’s was the case with me while I read this novel, especially Tully & Brandon, I thought of them as if they were my own friends. After reading RACE GIRL I had myself wishing that I came across this author sooner, but after this I do plan on checking out rest of her books. I couldn’t get enough of this book and I was glad that I got a chance to read this book, this is type of book I find myself going back to and reading in the future. There is so much going on in this book that you can’t help but find yourself on edge of your seat, unable to put it down because you are eager to see what is going to come next. I ended up reading that book till midnight last night, just so I could finish it. One more chapter turned to six more.

I had always loved horses, I had never raced horses but I did ride those couple times. I also have a cousin who used to race horses. To me, they are such beautiful creatures. I have read novels about horses in the past, but nothing like this. Even though I knew a bit about horses before reading the book, I knew nothing about jockey horse racing, I just seen it in movies. After reading RACE GIRL I feel like I learned so much more, it’s more than I knew before. While reading the book, I even found myself cheering for Tully, especially when she was racing in Melbourne Cup, she had worked so hard and I hoped that she will finally accomplish her dream. Despite what happened before she got there, she made it there and that thought had me smiling, she had accomplished what she had wanted it all these years. She didn’t give up.

Brandon Weston was her biggest support system, besides her friends and her aunt. I feel like she made it as far as she did, because of him. Despite the obstacles that they two of them went through, and later the distance. He’s the one who convinced his father at the end, to let Tully ride in Melbourne cup. I could tell that the two of them loved one another, despite his father trying keep them apart, in the end they had made it through. Especially considering that her father was against her riding, and I can’t blame him what happened to his wife, but he could at least been a bit supportive. It’s too bad that he didn’t realize it till was too late. What happened to him was terrible, I cried along with Tully. First her mother than her father, I can’t even imagine how she must felt during that time. Luckily she had an amazing support system. I loved how she was with horses, how much she loved them and tried to take care of them.

RACE GIRL is a beautiful, touching story about love, acceptance, second chances and following your dreams. A story that will stay with you.

Did you ever come across an author, which you couldn’t get enough of? Whose books you always look towards to? MICHELLE MADOW is that author for me. There wasn’t a single book of hers that I didn’t love. THE BLOOD OF THE HYNDRA wasn’t any different, I fell in love with it from first page and was unable to put it down till the end, and afterwards I was eager to find out what was going to happen next. I always loved novels that deal with witches and I had read multiple ones, but what I enjoyed about this book was that it was unique. THE BLOOD OF THE HYNDRA was unlike any other fantasy or witch novel that I had read before, it had a completely different, new spin on the subject. Plus it has mythology in the mix. Witches, Mythology how can you not enjoy a book like that? I couldn’t get enough of the book, and after that ending, I was eager to see what adventures, challenges they will face next.

Even though I loved the first book THE PROPHECY OF SHADOWS I felt like THE BLOOD OF THE HYNDRA had much more going on, more action. There were so much more that The Elementals had to deal in this book, and they faced more danger than they did in the first novel. Each of the tasks that they had to complete had a challenge of their own. Even getting milk was a challenge when I thought it would be the easiest of all of the tasks. Each one of them had an unexpected twist that even you, as a reader will not see coming. I knew that getting blood of hyndra would be hard but I didn’t realize how hard till all them starting to fight for their life. I know that all of them made it as far as they did because they stood by each other, despite the challenges they faced. Now that’s teamwork and friendship right there. By the end of the book, I felt like every single of Elementals were my friends.

I was wondering when Nicole would finally admit to her feelings, for Blake. I could see the tension, the attraction between two of them, all through the novel. The last person I expected for her to have conversation about her feelings, is Danielle. Out of all characters, she’s my least favorite but I think she starting grow on me, I saw change in her. Like when she came to Nicole’s defense when Ethan blamed her for his sister’s death, even I didn’t see that coming. It makes me wonder if the two of them will end up becoming friends. I kind of hope that they do. A type of book that will have you turning page with every character, and you will find yourself going on adventures along with Nicole and her friends.

MICHELLE MADOW did it again! An astonishing, beautiful novel.
