From the New York Times bestselling author of If I Stay

Allyson Healey's life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.

A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.

I loved Gayle Forman’s If I Stay & Where She Went so when I heard about her new series of course I had to check it out. Just One Day wasn’t a book that I expected it to be but in a good way, it had twists and turns that you didn’t expect to see in this book. This isn’t your ordinary love story. Do you like a happy love story, where the girl and boy have their happily ever after? Then you might want to stop reading now, that isn’t how this story is. It’s anything from that. Just One Day will make you cry, will make you angry and you will find yourself shocked on multiple occasions, due to face that it wouldn’t turn out the way that you thought it would. There were multiple times that I found myself re-reading the sentence because I wasn’t sure if I read it right or at least it felt like I didn’t. Just One Day is fill of surprises, the type that you will find yourself thinking about afterwards. A book that you won’t be able to get out of your mind.

Allyson, she’s a conflicted character in this book but you can’t help but love her. What she has is courage to have done what she did. Who else would meet a complete stranger and then plan to go with Paris with them? Who does that? That thought would never enter my mind; I wouldn’t be able to go through it. If I were in her situation I would been scared to go to foreign country with someone I just met. I did see a connection between two of them when they met, but I wasn’t sure what sort of connection thought, I didn’t think that it was love. To me, I felt that Allyson might care about him then Willem did about her, it just a feeling a had. I liked him up till to the point where he vanished on her without a word, though I did wonder if there was a reason behind it. I knew that she loved him, otherwise why else would she travel almost everywhere to find him. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

Of course I loved fact that this book had traveling in it. I had always loved books like those and fact that it took place in Paris, the one place that I want to visit? How can you not love a book like that? All those descriptions, images and I wished that I could visit it even more. I could see or at least imagine almost everything in my head. The descriptions of place, where they went wasn’t the only thing, emotions of characters especially Allyson. It’s hard not to feel bad for her considering that you feel all the emotions that she felt. How she felt when she was with him, after he left and while she was looking for him. It’s a feeling like you went on the journey along with her, as if you were the one beside her this whole time. An unforgettable journey.

Just One Day is not just about love, it is about heartbreak, travel and believing in yourself. It’s real. I believe that it was one of most realistic contemporary novels that I read this year. I found myself wishing that those characters were real. Just One Day is worth every page and a journey that you won’t forget. It’s not just touching but inspirational. I’m officially in love with Forman’s storytelling and can’t wait to see what adventures will come next.
