Bestselling author Laurie Halse Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about, and advocates for, survivors of sexual assault. Now, inspired by her fans and enraged by how little in our culture has changed since her groundbreaking novel Speak was first published twenty years ago, she has written a poetry memoir that is as vulnerable as it is rallying, as timely as it is timeless.

In free verse, Anderson shares reflections, rants, and calls to action woven between deeply personal stories from her life that she's never written about before. Searing and soul-searching, this important memoir is a denouncement of our society's failures and a love letter to all the people with the courage to say #metoo and #timesup, whether aloud, online, or only in their own hearts. Shout speaks truth to power in a loud, clear voice-- and once you hear it, it is impossible to ignore.

Powerful. Heartbreaking. Unforgettable.

Wow. I have no words. I loved LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON ever since I read SPEAK when I was still in high school, which I have read multiple time since then. I cannot begin to imagine having to go through what Anderson had to. In addition, cannot imagine writing about it years later. I have read few free verse books and loved them. SHOUT was not any different and despite the sad, difficult subject, I could not seem to get enough of this book. I know that if it was I, I would not be able to write about it afterwards. Despite being, a tough subject to write about, it is also an important one. It takes courage to experience something that tragic and find courage to speak out about it. The emotions within SHOUT , I felt as I could feel them while I was reading the book. SHOUT was the book that I had force myself to put down because of classes and work. A book that I could not stop thinking about afterwards.

The writing, the emotions. I finished it last night and I still cannot seem to get it out of my mind. It might be a hard book to read but at the same time, it will not be the book that you will be able to forget. There wasn’t anything about the book that I did not enjoy. It was beautifully written poetry. I write poetry myself but I have never written anything like this before. SHOUT broke my heart into million pieces, my heart broke for LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON and all of those other sexual assault victims. LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON has been one of my favorites ever since I read SPEAK all those years ago, and I enjoyed learning more about her life. I loved reading the part when she lived in Denmark. My heart goes out to LAURIE HALSE ANDERSON for opening up and sharing these painful experiences. I feel as SHOUT is a book that should be read by everyone. It’s a book that will stay with you.
