Felicity St. John has it all—loyal best friends, a hot guy, and artistic talent. And she’s right on track to win the Miss Scarlet pageant. Her perfect life is possible because of just one thing: her long, wavy, coppery red hair.

Having red hair is all that matters in Scarletville. Redheads hold all the power—and everybody knows it. That’s why Felicity is scared down to her roots when she receives an anonymous note:

I know your secret.

Because Felicity is a big fake. Her hair color comes straight out of a bottle. And if anyone discovered the truth, she’d be a social outcast faster than she could say "strawberry blond." Her mother would disown her, her friends would shun her, and her boyfriend would dump her. And forget about winning that pageant crown and the prize money that comes with it—money that would allow her to fulfill her dream of going to art school.

Felicity isn’t about to let someone blackmail her life away. But just how far is she willing to go to protect her red cred?

Both title and cover is what caught my eye. The girl in front who has a finger to her lips, like she has a secret, reminded me lot of TV Show Pretty Little Liars. Also way other girls were standing, to her back and their hair lighter shade of red, I could tell that there was something going on there. A secret. A mystery. It had me wondering what the girl was hiding and the title Red had me wondering how it related to story, since cover caught attention first, before I read the summary. I was hooked from moment that I read the summary; it looked my type of book. Red had me on edge of my seat till I reached the end. I had hard time believing that it was author’s debut novel.

Felicity : She was my favorite character from start. She was dedicated and she didn’t let everything that happened to her, with Gabby, her mother get to her. Well mostly. I was wondering what Gabby had against her too, to have her blackmail like that, I figured that maybe she done something to her, that slipped her mind. When I found out it was all for internship, I was furious like Felicity was. Even if I could see why she did it, did she have ask her to do such horrible things, like vote for her instead for her best friend, take her prom date? If I was in her position, I would broke down long time ago. Felicity has courage, especially after what she did at pageant. I wish she would stand up to her mother sooner, or told her how she felt. I hated how she treated her own daughter. More like a prize then a daughter. Despite how everyone acted, I felt like getting everything out in open was relief to her, even if she didn’t confess to it at first.

Brent & Jonathan : I didn’t like Brent at all. I tried to, but I just couldn’t. Despite way he cared for her at times. Other times it didn’t seem like he got her, or felt like he wanted one thing. Honestly, I don’t know what she saw him besides that he was most popular guy in school. Way he accused her of cheating when he saw the jacket? Like he didn’t have any trust in her at all. Though Felicity wasn’t being honest completely. Now, Jonathan, they had a connection. He seemed to understand her, understand her art. It seemed like he was only one that he could talk about art to. I had a feeling that he liked her from beginning, mostly by way that he acted around her. What happened between them during the prom was my favorite scene. I think it first time that she realized how caring he way, that she might be with wrong guy. I was waiting for the kiss since then. I was hoping she come to her senses and see that he is guy for her. There were so much chemistry between them, and he listened to her, had connection with her. Connection that she didn’t have with Brent.

There was suspense almost all way through the novel. Even after she found out about Gabby, there was always something happening, there was tension. There was an anxiety of what is Gabby going have her do next. If she would go too far, expose her. Most of all I was curious if Felicity find a way to expose her somehow, for revenge. I also wondered if she tell either Ivy or Hallie about it, I was hoping she would. Of course could see why she didn’t, she was afraid they would reject her. I was happy that at least Ivy was there for her, at the end.

There wasn’t a single moment, that didn’t make me crave for more. I am eager to see what Alison Cherry comes up with next.
