If I Lie, is an amazing debut novel. It’s one of my favorites that I read so far. I was hooked from the moment I read summary. Even then I knew that it would be an amazing novel, it sounded the type of book that I would enjoy. It turned out much better than I expected it to be. It was one of most powerful, moving stories that I read in while. I found myself crying at multiple occasions, and angry, betrayed in others. The emotions that are described through Quinn’s eyes felt so read, I felt like I was feeling everything she was. I could connect to her. I will be checking out Jackson’s future words, looking forward to see what she creates next.

  GOODREADS SUMMARY
Quinn have done the unthinkable: she kissed a guy who is not Carey, her boyfriend. And she got caught. Being branded a cheater would be bad enough, but Quinn is deemed a traitor, and shunned by all of her friends. Because Carey’s not just any guy—he’s serving in Afghanistan and revered by everyone in their small, military town.

Quinn could clear her name, but that would mean revealing secrets that she’s vowed to keep—secrets that aren’t hers to share. And when Carey goes MIA, Quinn must decide how far she’ll go to protect her boyfriend…and her promise.

What I loved most about this novel, was how realistic it was. If I Lie, covered the type of subject that can actually happened in real life. It was because that I was able to connect with characters, mostly Quinn. While reading, I actually imagined myself in her position and how she must been feeling. Especially considering that it had do with military and Carey’s secret, it was realistic, expect I got feeling that outcome might been different in real world. But because of the subject, it was one of reason’s that this was such powerful and emotional novel. It was the type of the book that I’m glad that I picked up.

Quinn, I loved her from the start. To me, Quinn is a strong character, most of time. Despite what people are saying about her, calling her because they believe that she cheated on Carey, she kept on going, and she didn’t go. I had a feeling that sometimes she wanted to. I would never be able go through everything that she gone through, just to keep the promise she made to Carey. I would just confess, I would never be able to handle all torture she went through. I loved how determined she was to keep her promise to Carey. It shows right there that she truly cared about him, loved him. Though Carey didn’t quite feel same about her. Yet I knew he still cared about her, otherwise he wouldn’t come to her, with this. Quinn’s emotions were so real. It made me wish I could be there besides her, and give her a friendship. I was glad that she at least she had George there.

Though I knew that Carey cared about her, I did not like fact that he had her pretend that they were still together, didn’t he realize what would happen if she kissed someone, that she would be taunted? It made me feel like he cared more about himself. At same time I understood why he did it, especially after he got up beat; just for giving small kiss to guy. Carey being gay was not secret I expected, so it took me by surprise. What I didn’t understand about him, is if he knew it for long time, why he got together with Quinn. In way I agree with Quinn, he led her on. Despite that, I know he cared. Because he confessed to him parents, friends, the moment he found how bad it was for Quinn.

Now Blake. For some reason I loved the relationship between him and Quinn. It was different, they didn’t fall in love right away, they more had hate/love sort of relationships through the entire book. I’m not sure why, but Blake was last person I though she end up with. Just they didn’t seem to like each other that much when she was with Carey, so that’s something else that took me by surprise. Through the book, I found myself rooting for them, to work it out. It seemed like they were going in circles with each other. I actually smiled when they told each other they loved each other. It’s these type of relationships’ that I enjoy reading more about. It’s more realistic to me.

This is the type of novel, everyone should totally check out. You won’t regret it. You spend the next few hours reading it. Not an easy book to put down.
