Clap When You Land.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

Camino Rios lives for the summers when her father visits her in the Dominican Republic. But this time, on the day when his plane is supposed to land, Camino arrives at the airport to see crowds of crying people...

In New York City, Yahaira Rios is called to the principal's office, where her mother is waiting to tell her that her father, her hero, has died in a plane crash.

Separated by distance - and Papi's secrets - the two girls are forced to face a new reality in which their father is dead and their lives are forever altered. And then, when it seems like they've lost everything of their father, they learn of each other.

Papi's death uncovers all the painful truths he kept hidden, and the love he divided across an ocean. And now, Camino and Yahaira are both left to grapple with what this new sister means to them, and what it will now take to keep their dreams alive.

Heartfelt. Lyrical. Real.

Beautifully written. This is a story that you will not forget, a story that you will be recommending to your friends. I did. I have read book by ELIZABETH ACEVEDO before and so far CLAP WHEN YOU LAND is my favorite of hers. When I heard about this book, I had a feeling that it was going to be an emotional book but did not guess how emotional it would be. I cried with both Camino and Yahaira and mourned the loss of their father along with them. CLAP WHEN YOU LAND is real, everything that both of the girls went through is real and can happen in real life. Having the story told from both of their point of view, making it more real and that way I got to know each of them better. I liked them both, and I liked how the two of them bonded when they met. I wasn’t sure if they would be, due to the situation, considering she was a result of their father’s affair. I did not think that the two of them would connect because of what happened.

CLAP WHEN YOU LAND was a beautifully written story about family, grief, loss, and loss. It was clear how much Camino and Yahaira loved their father, even after finding out that he had another family. I loved how lyrical this book was, which made the girl's expression much more real. I could not get enough of this book. I read until I reach the ending, and afterward, I wanted to go back and re-read again. CLAP WHEN YOU LAND was filled with a lot of feelings, emotions and I found myself feeling every single one of them. I felt as I was there with them. It was… I am not even sure if I can explain all the emotions that went through me while I was reading the book. I think that CLAP WHEN YOU LAND is a book that everyone should read. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

Be ready… for an emotional ride.

I read another book by this author earlier this year, and I bought this as soon as it came out. I just haven't read it yet! I really should.
