The Eighth Story. Nineteen Years Later.

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

I was excited when I heard that there would be another Harry Potter story, how could I not? Harry Potter has been one of my favorite series since high school. I have read all the novels multiple times. I remember after the last book I wondered how their children would be like, if they would be anything like their parents. When I found out that HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD would be in the play verse, I knew that it would be different than original books were, but was still willing give it a chance because I was excited about the new story. In the end, I found myself disappointed. I didn’t think that it was a horrible story but it wasn’t what I expected it to be. It feels like I set my expectations too high for this story.

I felt like story dragged a bit and I found myself wondering when it would end. Not only that but Albus annoyed me a bit, was it me or did he whine too much? Plus way he treated his dad, he did not show any respect to him at all, at least that was the feeling that I got while I was reading this story, I think that maybe this story meant to be seen as a play but not read, I just didn’t think it fit. There was also parts that I did enjoy in the story, fact that Harry Potter and his friends, reading about them years later. I had always wondered what they would end up doing, how they would be as adults. I never did this that Draco’s son and Harry’s son would become best friends, considering history between Draco and Harry. There was suspense in story when Harry started having nightmares again, if there was a chance that Voldemort was back.

It did not feel like an 8th book, maybe of the way it was written, I did not think of it of as the next novel but a story of it’s own. It was not like I thought it would be, but it also a type of story that is worth at least giving chance to. The story did make me wonder about the play, how it would be like to watch it on stage.
