If seventeen-year-old Skylar Evans were a typical Creek View girl, her future would involve a double-wide trailer, a baby on her hip, and the graveyard shift at Taco Bell. But after graduation, the only thing standing between straightedge Skylar and art school are three minimum-wage months of summer. Skylar can taste the freedom—that is, until her mother loses her job and everything starts coming apart. Torn between her dreams and the people she loves, Skylar realizes everything she’s ever worked for is on the line.
Nineteen-year-old Josh Mitchell had a different ticket out of Creek View: the Marines. But after his leg is blown off in Afghanistan, he returns home, a shell of the cocksure boy he used to be. What brings Skylar and Josh together is working at the Paradise—a quirky motel off California’s dusty Highway 99. Despite their differences, their shared isolation turns into an unexpected friendship and soon, something deeper
“It occurred to me that we were the same, in a way. Both of us treading water, pushing against forces we couldn’t control.”

Have you ever come across a novel that leaves you speechless? A book that will stay for you days after you finish reading it? I’LL MEET YOU THERE was that novel for me. I couldn’t get enough of the story. On Friday I spent 4 hours just so I could finish it, even though to me it felt like only an hour passed, that’s how deep into story I got. A heartbreaking story that will fill you with emotions and you will find yourself being able to relate in character, even if it’s not something that you had gone through. You will fall in love with the characters, especially Sky and Josh, the two of them will become your friends and you will want to know what happens with them next. Every page, every chapter had me craving for more, had me wondering how it will all end for two of them. You will be filled with emotions as well, the emotions that both Skylar and Josh are feeling.
Skylar and Josh relationship was different, and most of time difficult. The two of them didn’t have a happily after romance like most of books like these seemed to have these days. Sky & Josh were both damaged, broken in their own way. Josh due to lost leg and the memories of the war and Skylar because of her mom once she lost her job. Romance was the last of their worries at that moment. You could see that there was something between the two of them, maybe not romantically at first but there was some sort of spark there. I felt like their friendship took them away from the troubles that they had at the moment. I loved that no matter what; the two of them were always there for one another. Fact that Skylar was there when Josh freaked out and despite that it scared her, she still stood by his side. If that’s not love, then I don’t know what is. What the two of them had was special and they belonged with each other, I just wish that both of them saw it from start. I was rooting for their happily after.
War, PTSD is a hard subject to read about. This was the most emotional book that I read this year. Sometimes there were chapters where I couldn’t stop the tears, even though I never been to war. I could feel Josh emotions, his fear because of the way that it was described. I’LL MEET YOU THERE was my second book by HEATHER DEMETRIOS and my favorite one, and it won’t be my last one. I was blown away, there wasn’t anything that I didn’t love. Even though it has been couple days since I had finished the book, it’s still on my mind. I can’t help but wonder what happens with Sky and Josh next, I feel like there is possibly more to their story.
Beautiful story about love, second chances and aftermath of dealing with difficult situations. Despite everything, the two of them held on. A survival story. An inspiration.
