Brimming with heartfelt relationships and authentic high-school dynamics The Start of Me and You proves that it’s never too late for second chances.
It’s been a year since it happened—when Paige Hancock’s first boyfriend died in an accident. After shutting out the world for two years, Paige is finally ready for a second chance at high school . . . and she has a plan. First: Get her old crush, Ryan Chase, to date her—the perfect way to convince everyone she’s back to normal. Next: Join a club—simple, it’s high school after all. But when Ryan’s sweet, nerdy cousin, Max, moves to town and recruits Paige for the Quiz Bowl team (of all things!) her perfect plan is thrown for a serious loop. Will Paige be able to face her fears and finally open herself up to the life she was meant to live?

I loved EMERY LORD’S debut novel OPEN ROAD SUMMER and from minute that I came across cover of THE START OF YOU AND ME I had this feeling that it was going be another book that I am going to love. I was right; I fell in love with this book. Emery Lord is going to be an author that I am going to love for years to come; she has a way to reader’s emotions, where it’s impossible to put the book back down. Her novels are real or at least they feel real to me. All the characters in this book, their emotions felt real to me and I could actually see it happening in real life. One of my favorites was the emotions that were displayed through the novel. Grief, anger, fear, love and hope. I could feel myself going through emotions that Paige went through after loss of her boyfriend in swimming accident. THE START OF YOU AND ME is one of the books that I didn’t want to come to end, yet I was curious how it would turn out. You get attached to the characters in the book and you can’t help but wonder what is in store for them.
Max & Paige: How can you not love them? I thought that their relationship was cute from moment that two of them connected. I had seen that there was some sort of bond between the two of them. However I never pictured Max and Paige together, mostly because of wat that Paige felt about Ryan. I didn’t even think that she thought of him more than friend, till they ended up in closet together for game. I knew then that she had more those friend’s feelings towards him. When Max was messing with her, I could actually imagine the feelings that she was feeling at that, she was disappointed that he didn’t kiss her. After that scene I wondered if they would actually kiss. Paige and Max weren’t just friends, they became best friends and maybe that’s one reason it was hard for her admit how she felt about him. I loved that the relationship in book wasn’t rushed. It felt more real that way. Of course my favorite was kissing scene at end. A great end to beautiful story.
THE START OF YOU AND ME is a story about loss, grief, overcoming fear, friendship and discovering new love. A story that will take your breath away, one that you will be thinking about once it reached end. I found myself wondering what’s going happen with Max and Paige next. Especially since two of them are so far away from one another, how would it work? I wanted to see what in store for them next. An author that didn’t disappoint me. A novel that deserves at least ten stars, if not more. I love how Emery can get you hooked to point where you won’t be able put down till end.
Beautiful Love Story.
