SUMMARY
Making friends has never been Elise Dembowski’s strong suit. All throughout her life, she’s been the butt of every joke and the outsider in every conversation. When a final attempt at popularity fails, Elise nearly gives up. Then she stumbles upon a warehouse party where she meets Vicky, a girl in a band who accepts her; Char, a cute, yet mysterious disc jockey; Pippa, a carefree spirit from England; and most importantly, a love for DJing.
Told in a refreshingly genuine and laugh-out-loud funny voice, THIS SONG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE is an exuberant novel about identity, friendship, and the power of music to bring people together.
This Song Will Save Your life was beautifully written. It was an inspirational book, at least to me. Have you ever read a novel where you could relate to what was going on with main character? In way I could relate to Elise. Not all the way but parts of it. Like Elise, I had always been outsider and didn’t have many friends when in school. I had felt alone a lot. Like her, I did find friends at some point. I was bullied as well. Through middle school and most of high school. I could relate to how she was feeling most of time and because of that, I liked her. I enjoyed watching her change all through book, finally find something that she enjoyed, finding new friends. It made me happy that she found a place where she fit in.
Char: He was one character that I wasn’t sure about. From start I had a feeling that there was something off about him, something that I didn’t like. Once he told her about Pippa then got together with Elise I got a feeling that he was just using her, or at least that’s feeling I got. He ditched her moment she got gig that he wanted. If he cared for her, he would been happy for her. I got feeling that he cares for Pippa more that he admits, I believe that’s the real reason he had dumped Elise. He didn’t even consider it, not till she got back. I was still not a big fan of him.
Now Vicky was a good friend. Liked her from the start. She didn’t judge her, not even after she found out after her arm. Instead she talked her about it and made her feel that she belonged. I loved how both Vicky and Henry accepted for who she was. Finally Elise had a place where she had friends, doing what she loved. It’s a novel that I couldn’t pull myself away from, I was sucked in in her life and I wanted see how it would end. I needed to know if she finally find her happiness.
There were tears through this novel. It’s an inspirational book for most of the teens, that I think all of teens should at least check out. More that you read, the more you crave. You will find yourself observed in Elise’s life, I know that I did. A novel you won’t forget, a characters you can relate to, a story that is worth checking out.
