Wow, once again Rachel Caine left me speechless. There hasn’t been a single Morganville Vampires book that didn’t amaze me. There was something about Black Dawn that amazed me even more than the other books. It seems to me, like each book gets filled with more action. Black Dawn totally drew me into the story, I didn’t even realize the time passing by because I was so observed in the book. I found myself feeling that I needed to know what happened, even if this is fantasy, Caine brought a story to life for me, she set a great scenery. Black Dawn was probably one of the darkest novels out of all Morganville Vampires and there were quite few emotional, scary scenes. I’m looking forward to reading Bitter Blood .
GOODREADS SUMMARY
Ever since the draug--mysterious creatures that prey on vampires--took over Morganville, the lives of student Claire Danvers and her friends have been thrown into turmoil. Most of the town's residents have evacuated, but Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael have chosen to stay and fight. Using the city's water system to spread, the draug have rapidly multiplied.
Things in Morganville look grim, especially since vampire Amelie--the town founder--has been infected by the master draug's bite. Now, if Claire and her friends don't figure out how to cure Amelie and defeat the draug, it looks like Morganville will become little more than a ghost town.
I knew, from the moment I saw the title Black Dawn that it was going to be a dark book, the title was already mysterious and the cover too. It fit the story well too. Black Dawn was one of the creepiest books I read, out of the Morganville Vampire books that are out already. I found myself freaked out more than once, by the events that happened in the book, and the way Caine described everything, I found myself imagining it. I loved that the books was written from multiple point of views, I felt like I got to know each character even more then I did before. Claire, Shane had always been my favorite characters, couple and after reading this book, I found myself loving them even more. It was clear in this book, how in love they were, even if they had their off moments through the book. In end, there were still there for one another.
Shane: I loved him since first book and I felt horrible for his in this book. I found my heart breaking for him on multiple occasions on this book, when he looked so broken, so lost. I had always thought of Shane as strong, so it was heartbreaking to see him this broken in this book. I found myself actually wanting to hug him, to try and make it better for him. When draug first got him, I seriously though he was gone, I thought that there was no way he made through it. That’s why I’m glad he has Claire, if it wasn’t for her, for her dedication, he would be gone. I was happy to see him back his usual self towards the end. However I know he wouldn’t, if it wasn’t for Claire. I loved how much she was there for him, even when he wasn’t acting like himself. I could tell that what they have is true love. I enjoyed the fact that a lot portion focused on them. I’m curious what’s going happen between Claire and Shane, if they will get married. I am hoping they would.
Eve & Michael: my heart broke for them too. I seriously was starting to think that things wouldn’t go back to normal between the two of them, especially how they were acting for most part of the book, the way Eve moved away, jumped when Michael touched her. I felt like Eve wasn’t fair to him, first she avoids talking about and when he talks about it, she gets angry. When she stabbed him, just to prove point, I was shocked; I did not see that coming and couldn’t believe that she actually stabbed him. I seriously didn’t think they would get married, that’s why the ending surprised me but I am glad that they got their happy after. Of course now I am curious to see how they handle married life.
Black Dawn kept me on edge of seat, till very end. It kept me wondering if they going defeat, I even wondered if Shane will ever be okay. If Eve and Michael will make it. If Amelie will live. There were quite few twists that I didn’t see coming. I found myself tearing up, few times, especially for Shane right after he came back, for him, for Claire for seeing him like that. I found myself holding my breath at some scenes. I got say this was intense novel and so far, a favorite.
