I can see why so many people are talking about this book. The only alien books that I read before was Roswell, Roswell High when I was in high school. Obsidian is even better. From the moment that I picked up the book, it was hard for me to put the book down. After finishing the book, I found myself wanting to pick up Onyx to see what happens with all characters next, especially Katy, Dee & Daemon. I’m already in love with series and eager to find out what adventures everyone will face next.
GOODREADS SUMMARY
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip.
The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.
I’m completely in love with the cover. Actually it was one of first things that captured my attention, the cover. How can you not love it? It got to be one of the most attention grabbing covers that I came across this past year. Not only is it stunning, especially the background with some sort of river with what seemed to be a thunderstorm, it’s also mysterious. Just by looking at who I am guessing is Daemon on cover, you can see that novel is going be intense, considering that his eyes are glowing green. I loved how almost everything is green in book, including the lake; it gives even more mysterious look to the book. Even if you don’t read summary, the reader would be able tell that book is going be intense. It’s one of most creative covers I seen and it totally fits the story. How can you not love cover like this? The cover itself seems to tell some of a story.
I loved fact that Katy is book lover and a blogger in the book. In a way, that was one of reasons that I felt I could relate, connect with her more then I could with other characters. I love books; I love blogging way Katy does. Besides that, I loved Katy’s personality. Considering that Daemon was being a complete jerk to her, she didn’t let it get to her. Even when he was against her being friends with his sister Dee, she didn’t let him tell her who to be friends with. That’s what I liked about her. I could see her changing, becoming bit stronger as the book progressed as well. I loved the relationship that she had with Dee, even once she found out that Dee was an alien, she didn’t go running. To me it seems, once their secret was revealed, their bond grew stronger. I could see that girl truly cared for one another. What Dee and Katy had is a real friendship.
Daemon : To be honest, I didn’t like him at all at start. Mostly way he treated her in beginning, when all she wanted was for directions. He’s the type of guys that I never liked. Though Katy handled herself better than I would have in her situation. I was curious how anyone could dislike someone that much, before even getting to know them. I got say; I was curious why Daemon didn’t want Katy to be friends with his sister Dee. I was glad that neither Dee nor Katy listened to him though. I could that Katy did like him even if he was jerk to her most of time, even if she tried deny it. I saw their attraction grow from one another at Lake, from that point on I had feeling that something more would happen between two of them, that there was a connection between the two of them. Through reading the book, Daemon grew on me and I found myself loving him, especially when he defended her when Andrew seemed set against her. By end, I knew that he cared for her, more then he wanted to, despite what Kat believed when he told her. I’m hoping that she will come to her senses in next book, see how much he cares for her.
This book is filled with action, there wasn’t a single page where there wasn’t anything going on. If you love Fantasy, romance, adventure, be sure to check this series out.
