SOMETIMES, THERE ARE NO WORDS...

The youngest of six talented sisters, Elyse d'Abreau was destined for stardom - until a boating accident took everything from her. Now, the most beautiful singer in Tobago can't sing. She can't even speak.

Seeking quiet solitude, Elyse accepts a friend's invitation to Atargatis Cove. Named for the mythical first mermaid, the Oregon seaside town is everything Elyse's home in the Caribbean isn't: an ocean too cold for swimming, parties too tame for singing, and people too polite to pry - except for one.

Christian Kane is a notorious playboy - insolent, arrogant, and completely charming. He's also the only person in Atargatis Cove who doesn't treat Elyse like a glass statue. He challenges her to express herself, and he admires the way she treats his younger brother, Sebastian, who believes Elyse is the legendary mermaid come to life.

When Christian needs a first mate for the Cove's high-stakes Pirate Regatta, Elyse reluctantly stows her fear of the sea and climbs aboard. The ocean isn't the only thing making waves, though - swept up in Christian's seductive tide and entranced by the Cove's charms, Elyse begins to wonder if a life of solitude isn't what she needs. But changing course again means facing her past. It means finding her inner voice. And scariest of all, it means opening her heart to a boy who's best known for breaking them...

Beautiful. Breathtaking, Heart aching.

There are so many words I can describe about how much I loved this book. It filled with a lot emotions once I turned the last page of THE SUMMER OF CHASING MERMAIDS . This book will leave you amazed and breathless. I wanted to keep on reading it because I needed to know how it ended for Elyse and Christian. The title is what caught my attention too, I love anything that has anything do with mermaids or the ocean. THE SUMMER OF CHASING MERMAIDS was the 2nd SARAH OCKLER novel I had read and it had been years since I read the other one. Once I started reading this novel, I knew that I will be checking out rest of her novels. Even though this is only 2nd novel that I read by her, I am already in love with this author’s writing. I knew I would love this book after only reading few pages in the book. THE SUMMER OF CHASING MERMAIDS was a heartbreaking story and there were few times I found myself tearing up, I can’t even begin imagine to go through what Elyse had to go through. It’s heartbreaking.

You can’t help but love Elyse, I can’t imagine that it was easy for her after losing her voice, her dream shattering into pieces. Ockler’s descriptions of Elyse’s emotions were vivid, that I could actually feel Elyse’s pain, grief and fear. I could picture everything that was happening. I know that meeting Kane brother’s, especially Christian was good for her. How can you not love Christian and Elyse? I sensed something between two of them, not long after she offered to help him with his boat. Christian was one person who seemed to treat her like she wasn’t fragile, he believed her and had her face her fears, while being besides her every step of the way. Not only did he believed into her, he loved her for who she was. At first I had my doubths that someone like Christian, who seemed to break other girls heart, won’t break hers. It wasn’t long where I noticed how much he cared for her, by the way he acted and what he did for her. I loved reading the scenes between the two of them, it always put a smile on my face. True love is beautiful.

I loved the friendship between Vanessa, Kirby and Elyse. How Vanessa accepted her right away, despite bond she seemed to have with Christian at begging of the novel. How Kirby tried to involve Elyse, make her feel welcome. Even when Elyse would push them away, they were there for her every step of the way. Now that’s true friendship right there. I don’t know if she made it as far as she had if it wasn’t for her friends, family and Christian. They gave her strength, courage.

A book you will fall in love with. Be ready for emotional ride.
