For twenty years, the Palomas and the Corbeaus have been rivals and enemies, locked in an escalating feud for over a generation. Both families make their living as traveling performers in competing shows—the Palomas swimming in mermaid exhibitions, the Corbeaus, former tightrope walkers, performing in the tallest trees they can find.

Lace Paloma may be new to her family’s show, but she knows as well as anyone that the Corbeaus are pure magia negra, black magic from the devil himself. Simply touching one could mean death, and she's been taught from birth to keep away. But when disaster strikes the small town where both families are performing, it’s a Corbeau boy, Cluck, who saves Lace’s life. And his touch immerses her in the world of the Corbeaus, where falling for him could turn his own family against him, and one misstep can be just as dangerous on the ground as it is in the trees.

“The sense of falling did not touch her, not as long as her body was between the hands of this boy who felt steadier in the air than on the ground.”

A striking love story, which will capture your heart from start. Just the Quote above will have you picking up the book. I always loved retellings of Romeo & Juliet because that is one of my most favorites types of stories, THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS was one of the best in my opinion, with its own unique twist. THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS was unlike any other ones novels that I came across, I It has an unusual setting that’s unlike any books you read. Not just that but way that the book was written, the voice, it was lyrical. I was engrossed with the story, the characters from start to the end, and even afterwards I couldn’t seem to get the story out of my mind. Those weren’t only what I loved about the book, the descriptions within the novel were so vivid that I could picture it so well in mind, feeling as I was transported into the story. How can you not love a book like that? Everything about it, was magical.

LACE & CLUCK : Their story wasn’t your typical love story, it was different, especially considering that their families were feuding. What I loved about this particular story was fact that it wasn’t love at first sight , and at first it seemed that Lace didn’t even want anything to do with him, or at least she pretended that she didn’t. However as the book progressed I saw that she started to care about him, more than she wanted to admit. Even I could see the connection between the two of them, the chemistry. I knew for fact that Cluck cared about more, sometimes it felt like he cared about her more than she did, just a feeling that I got. He did so much for her. Otherwise why would he take her in when she was kicked out, and defend her. Though he wasn’t aware what she was at first, but in the end that didn’t stop him. I was rooting and waiting for their happily after, they deserved it.

Cover is what caught my attention first, and the title. Both of them are unique in their own way. THE WEIGHT OF FEATHERS How can that title not have you curious what is going on, what the story is about? Even if the title won’t capture your attention, the colorful cover will. There wasn’t anything about it that I didn’t love. It’s astonishing. A book that is worth giving chance to.
