Before :

Kelsey and David became best friends the summer before freshman year and were inseparable ever after. Until the night a misunderstanding turned Kelsey into the school joke, and everything around her crumbled—including her friendship with David. So when Kelsey's parents decided to move away, she couldn't wait to start over and leave the past behind. Except, David wasn't ready to let her go...

After :

Now it's senior year and Kelsey has a new group of friends, genuine popularity, and a hot boyfriend. Her life is perfect. That is, until David's family moves to town and he shakes up everything. Soon old feelings bubble to the surface and threaten to destroy Kelsey's second chance at happiness. The more time she spends with David, the more she realizes she never truly let him go. And maybe she never wants to.

To be honest, cover is what caught my attention for LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE and had me curious about the book. It is such colorful, romantic yet suspenseful cover that you can’t help but wonder about it. Just look at it, how can you not? Once I read the summary of the book I had a feeling it would be a novel that I would love. I was right. I couldn’t get enough of this novel, and even ended up reading late last night, just so I could finish it. I wanted to see how it all would end. LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE Is type of story that will suck you in from start and will have your attention till the end of the book. I could actually felt that I was part of their life’s, of their story. LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE was filled with so many feelings, that you found yourself feeling the character’s emotions, especially Kelsey’s. This novel will have your emotions everywhere, so be ready.

This was that book that was hard for me to pick, who I preferred with Kelsey. Ryan or David. I tried to dislike Ryan because of the choices that he made, but it was hard to when I saw how much he loved her. I could see by the way he treated her, and his reaction towards the end, when the two of them broke up. I actually felt sorry for him, despite what he did to David. Besides Kelsey didn’t make such great choices herself. Even though I liked Ryan, I did see more of connection between Kelsey and David, but then two of them had a history. From moment that David moved back, Kelsey pretty much avoided Ryan or at least that feeling I got, way that she acted with him. It’s no wonder that he got jealous. I loved how t the relationship was told from before and after alternatives, it showed how their friendship developed, how they changed. It felt realistic that they didn’t get together till end of the book, it felt more realistic. In way I hoped that her and Ryan should break up, especially when she was hang up on another guy, it wasn’t fair to Ryan. The ending had me smiling.

LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE was an astonishing debut novel. GINA CIOCCA is an author that is going come a long way. I got feeling she is going be an author that I am going to love. Her debut novel just came out recently and I am already eager to see what story she comes up with next. A beautiful young adult contemporary novel, about first love, second chances and learning when to let go. You will fall in love with every single character, even the ones you know that you shouldn’t. Now this is an author who knows how to tell a story and how to keep the reader’s attention. It is still a book that I am thinking about. I also loved the family, friendship aspect in the book. Debut that deserves more than five stars.

Extraordinary love story about second chance, at love.
