Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

UPDATED REVIEW 9/7/2015

Did you ever read a book? One that every time you read it you fell in love with story more? THE DUFF was that particular book for me. Originally I came across novel back in 2012 and I remembered that it had a high impact on me. I decided to re-read and even if I already knew the story, I didn’t want to put it down. For a second time I fell in love with Wesley & Bianca’s story, but then their story is unlike any other love stories out there. Unlike other love stories out there Wesley and Bianca weren’t in love, the only reason that even communicated because Bianca needed an escape and Wesley was her only way out. By middle of the book the reader will find themselves rooting for them. I was. With Wesley I was like Bianca at first, I couldn’t stand Wesley but by middle of the book I couldn’t anymore, I loved him. I also enjoyed fact that there was a bit of humor added to the book.

WESLEY & BIANCA: Like I mentioned earlier the two of them made an interesting couple. Most of the book you could tell that no matter what Wesley did, it drove Bianca crazy and only time she put with it, is when she needed him. When they started it I wondered how long it last, and if they will be able to keep it to friends and benefits only. At first I was sure that Wesley didn’t care about Bianca, but when he rescued her from her father when he was drunk, defended her against his grandmother, I knew that he cared about her a lot. I thought that it was cute how he wouldn’t give up. Why would he do that if he didn’t care about her. I was rooting for him; I was rooting for Bianca to come to her senses, to admit it. Despite their differences, they belonged with each other.

What had captured me about book was title : THE DUFF It caught my attention and made me want to pick up a book to read about it. This was a word that I never even heard of before. An unique Idea for an amazing book. It was a realistic novel that dealt with alcoholism, escape, love, friendship. This novel didn’t have a single dull moment, every single page has you wondering what’s going to happen next and how will it all end? A beautiful, inspiring debut novel by KODY KEPLINGER, an author to look out for. I am eager to check out rest of her adventures.
