A charming and laugh-out-loud novel by Lauren Graham, beloved star of Parenthood and Gilmore Girls, about an aspiring actress trying to make it in mid-nineties New York City.

Franny Banks is a struggling actress in New York City, with just six months left of the three year deadline she gave herself to succeed. But so far, all she has to show for her efforts is a single line in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters and a degrading waitressing job. She lives in Brooklyn with two roommates-Jane, her best friend from college, and Dan, a sci-fi writer, who is very definitely not boyfriend material-and is struggling with her feelings for a suspiciously charming guy in her acting class, all while trying to find a hair-product cocktail that actually works.

Meanwhile, she dreams of doing "important" work, but only ever seems to get auditions for dishwashing liquid and peanut butter commercials. It's hard to tell if she'll run out of time or money first, but either way, failure would mean facing the fact that she has absolutely no skills to make it in the real world. Her father wants her to come home and teach, her agent won't call her back, and her classmate Penelope, who seems supportive, might just turn out to be her toughest competition yet.

LAUREN GRAHAM has been one of my favorite actresses since I have seen her in Gilmore Girls years ago. I had no idea that she had written a book. Of course when I came across SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY, MAYBE while at the bookstore I got excited but since I didn’t have enough to purchase it, I ended up checking out at the library. SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY, MAYBE is one of those books that I’m happy I decided to check out. Even though I originally picked up a book because of the author, what can I say? I was curious if Lauren was as great writer as she was an actress and turns out that she are. Lauren’s debut novel was not a romance novel but it was so much more, it dealt with adventures, dreams and fate. Only after a few pages the reader will fall in love with Franny and wonder where such long journey land her. Will it get here where she wants to be?

SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY, MAYBE is a novel about a struggling aspiring actress, Franny who seems even have trouble getting an audition or an agent. The book dealt with process of going through audition, then waiting for another, finding an agent. Most of things that Franny went through in the novel was realistic, and it had me wondering if Lauren went through similar experiences, if that’s what she based book on. I had never thought about the process before I have read the book. I was aware that it was hard when it came to acting but not this hard. All the descriptions in the novel, all the emotions that Franny went through the novel I was feeling them too, I felt like I became that character while reading the book. By the end of novel I felt like I knew Franny personally even though she’s a fictional character, I felt like that about most of characters and that’s what I loved about this novel. By the end you felt like you were saying goodbye to your old friends.

I’m not sure how I felt about James, at start of book I liked him but by middle of the novel I wasn’t sure. Have you ever came a character that had things about him that you loved about him but also there were things that annoyed you? James was that character for me. However by the end of the book I did not like him, especially after how he treated Franny at premiere, what sort of boyfriend does that? It had me wondering if he actually cared about her way that he claimed he did. I felt like Dan and Franny had more chemistry that her and James and Dan who was there for her through almost everything, while James was gone half of time. There were times that I wondered what she actually saw him, what women saw in him. I am glad that she finally realized that what James was doing, wasn’t okay. Dan is the one she belongs with. Dan understands her much more.

Of course I loved the notes, the drawings it made the book more personal somehow. A beautiful, inspiring debut novel. After reading SOMEDAY, SOMEDAY, MAYBE I hope to see more in future for Lauren Graham, an author to look out for.
