Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

At one point you come across a novel that you can’t get out of your mind. A book that you can relate to. ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES was that book for me. It was beautiful, realistic and heartbreaking. A kind of story that will have you see mental illness in complete different way. I have read few novels about depression through the years but this was one of most heartbreaking for me. I could feel Finch’s confusion, fear and sadness, his part of story was filled with a lot of emotions and there were multiple times when I read it, I felt afraid for him. Just like Violet did after a while. I was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to hold on the feeling for long; I was terrified of what he might do. I have a friend who has bipolar disorder and I know that it can get back, if it’s not treated on time. I dealt with depression myself but not as severe. I believe in a way I could relate to both Violet and Finch and how they were feeling through the novel. Be prepared for an emotional ride.

Relationship between Violet & Finch was different. A relationship that you never thought would go anywhere, at least not in the beginning. I believe that reason that two of them even connected was because of how they met, at ledge of bell tower. I don’t think that two of them would notice one another or that’s the feeling that I got. The two of them were such different people and as time passed I could see how much they cared for one another. I loved fact that she cared for him, knowing that he was a trouble maker, and even when her parents told her to stop seeing him. I don’t think anyone but Violet realized how bad he was, not till the end anyways. That next few chapters had me crying, I really started to believe that he went past that point. That Violet saved him, but he was past saving. I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I finished it.

There were few slow parts in book, but in general I didn’t want to put it down. Once I reached the ending, I didn’t want it to be end. That’s what I loved about this book, it was a realistic end, an end that you can see happening in real life. Not a happily ever after. ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES will have you thinking about characters and it’s a book that more people can relate to, because it’s tough subject but one that need to be addressed. I have a feeling that this will be a book that I will be picking up in future and re-reading it. A book filled with emotions, but a book that you should check out. Be ready to shed few tears.
