Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.

But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart . . . misses.

Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?

Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she’s certainly no damsel-in-distress—she’s the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon

Did you ever come across a novel because of cover or a title? Because you had a feeling that you would enjoy that book. Poison was that novel for me. I came across it at library and it caught my attention right away. Both the title and the cover, it had me curious about it and eager to read it. How can you not wonder about a book titled Poison? The cover tells you that it’s fairy tale adventurous book and that’s type of novels that I love. When I read the description on the novel I was hooked. There was so much that I was wondering about, Why did she try to kill the princess? Would she be able to get away? What would happen if she was caught? Of course I picked it up so I can see why. I ended up loving book even more than I thought that I would. It’s one of best YA Fantasy books that I read this year. Poison is a book that I’m glad I came across.

What I enjoyed about this novel, it wasn’t only filled with action, adventure and romance but there was a humorous aspect added to it. I found myself laughing out loud several times. Most of those seemed to take when Fred was around and I couldn’t help but love him. He was one of happiest people I read about in books. I could tell that it annoyed Kyra about him at first. I had a feeling that Fred cared about her from moment that two of them met. Otherwise he wouldn’t want spend all this time with her, even as she keep ditching him. He came to her rescue as well. Despite Fred being on her nerves at beginning, I saw that she did care for him. She was jealous when he realized that he was engaged to her best friend, even if she tried not to show it. I was rooting for her and Fred to admit it and get together. I was smiling when they kissed at the end. Everyone deserves a happy ending and he made her happy.

Despite Kira trying kill princess, before I knew it was a fake princess, I felt myself rooting for her. Especially when it was revealed why she wanted to kill her. It didn’t sound like the something that her best friend would do. I found myself relieved that it was a fake princess, or I can’t imagine what Kyra go through if she did kill her. Now, Rosie the pig, she reminded a lot of charlotte’s web and how she got attached to Kyra so fast. I know that she denied it at first but she loved the pig, otherwise she wouldn’t try get her back. I loved the adventures that two of them had. I think that I loved the pig as much as Kyra.

If you love fantasy, fairy tales. Poison is a book worth picking up. It has everything from action, adventure, with bit of romance and humor added in a mix. A book that you don’t want to miss.
