Welcome, Caller, This Is Chloe was an amazing debut novel by Shelley Coriell. . When I first picked up the novel, I wasn’t sure how much I was going to like it. Cover and the title was actually what attracted my attention to the book. Beginning started bit slow for me but once it picked up, I couldn’t put the book down; actually I didn’t want to put the book down. I wanted to see what would happen with Chloe next. I was sad when this book came to end, because I got so observed with the story, the characters. I will be checking out future works of Coriell, that’s an author that has a talent.

GOODREADS SUMMARY

Big-hearted Chloe Camden is the queen of her universe until her best friend shreds her reputation and her school counselor axes her junior independent study project. Chloe is forced to take on a meaningful project in order to pass, and so she joins her school’s struggling radio station, where the other students don’t find her too queenly.

Ostracized by her former BFs and struggling with her beloved Grams’s mental deterioration, lonely Chloe ends up hosting a call-in show that gets the station much-needed publicity and, in the end, trouble. She also befriends radio techie and loner Duncan Moore, a quiet soul with a romantic heart. On and off the air, Chloe faces her loneliness and helps others find the fun and joy in everyday life. Readers will fall in love with Chloe as she falls in love with the radio station and the misfits who call it home.

What is there not to love about this novel? It was one of most realistic novels that I have read this year, and one of my favorites. I fell in love, not just with book but with storyline, the characters, especially Chloe and Duncan, they were my favorites and I have rooted for them through the entire book. Welcome Caller, This Is Chloe is a book I didn’t want put down till I reached end, but at the same time I didn’t want come to end, because only after only few pages, I felt connected with the characters. Everything that Chloe and everyone else was dealing was something that I knew could actually happen in real life, and that made me able to connect with story, the characters much more. This book is type of story that will stay with you, that you will find yourself thinking about even after you finish the book.

I love the cover of this book; It’s so bright and colorful. The cover was what had captured my attention, because it was so colorful, especially the girl who I know is Chloe, everything about her is colorful, and that actually fits Chloe’s personality. Cover totally fits the title and the story. At first when I came across the book, while on Goodreads, I was wondering about the title. After reading the book, I know why and I find it Unique, it’s probably one of longest titles I came across but it fits. I feel like it would capture a lot of reader’s attention.

I love that the book was about radio station and talk shows. Chloe’s love and relationship talk show, reminded me a lot of a talk show I listen on radio, expect it’s on every night. But listening to Chloe’s talk show reminded me of that show. I loved her dedication, how she didn’t give up on it, despite her Counselor telling her she should, when she first heard about it. That’s what I loved about Chloe, everyone was right, she does have a big heart, and she stayed dedicated to her listeners, on both of her shows. I could tell that it started out as a project but turned her into loving the radio and actually making friends, and considering how her own best friends turned against her, I was glad she was able to move on past that, make new friends.

Chloe & Duncan: I loved their relationship from start. Though, at first I wasn’t too fond of Duncan, he seemed kind of cold with Chloe at times, even when she was being nice with him. I could tell that Chloe loved him right from start, just the way she seemed to brighten up, to smile anytime that he was around, when they would spend time together. Through the book, I could see their bond developing, and I knew they cared for one another, because they always seemed to be there for each other. I loved how Chloe found a way to cheer Duncan up when things were bad, that’s what I loved about her, her big heart. Everyone needs a friend like that. I could tell that they seemed to connect with each other, pretty fast. I wished Duncan would finally see that. I was glad to see when he finally came to his senses. I am kind of curious what possibly happen with two of them, after end of the book. They were my favorite couple, and fact that they didn’t get together till almost end, made it more interesting to read, to see what happens next. If two of them would end up together.

Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe is book I would recommend to anyone. This is book worth giving chance to. You’ll be glad that you did in the end. It deals with pretty much what everyone goes through at some point, in real life. Pick it up. Read it.

Hi Jenia! This looks like such an intriguing book. I find it cool that Clhoe finds a way to deal with her social issues by working at a radio station. This type of book sounds very layered and three dimensional - something that I always look for in the books I read. Is the radio show that this book reminded you of the Delilah Show? She's awesome :)! I definitely want to read this book after you reviewed it! I also have to admit that the cover looks pretty nifty ;P.
