I was always fascinated with dystopian, fairy tales like stories. I’m not sure what’s it’s about them but they always seem to capture my attention. I have been hearing about The Selection, for quite bit on Goodreads. I saw quite bit good reviews about it. What captured my attention was the cover. It is what had made me curious to begin with. It was one of the books, once I picked it up and started it reading, I knew I was going love it and won’t be able to put it down. I was right. After reading it, it made me wish that I read it sooner. I’m already in love with the series, I’m eager till The Elite to come out, though not sure I can wait a year. I ale ready need to know what happens next.

GOODREADS SUMMARY

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself--and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

I love the cover and the title. Both of those are unique and it would totally capture the reader’s attention. Even if you don’t read the summary before reading the book, that’s how it was for me, before I stumbled across book at library. By then I forgot I seen it at Goodreads, but it was the cover, the title that caught my eyes, it made me want pick up the book, see what it was about. I love how the main girl on the cover are the main focus, and how the rest of the girls in background, are kind of blurred behind her. It gave the book more of mysterious look. I knew right away, just from photograph that it be a different type of novel.

I loved America right from start. Of course, I loved her name, I just though it’s a unique name. Most of all, I like her attitude, and way she wasn’t a pushover. I also loved the way Kierra added bit of humor to the character as well; it made the story even more interesting. I found myself rooting for America, all through the book. While reading it, I felt like I was there with America. When Aspen broke up with her, I actually felt heartbroken and angry at the same time, pretty much feeling the emotions that she was feeling. Same thing when she realized that she might have some sort of feelings, for Maxon. In a way, I felt like I could connect with character, as if I was experiencing everything that she was. America seemed like a very strong character to me, and she seemed to get even stronger, towards end of the book. I’m curious to see how she changes, what adventures come for her in the next book.

Maxon & Aspen : In a way, I like them both in their own way. Though I got to admit that I’m more of Team Maxon, so I am rooting more for him, to end up with America. Aspen, I liked him in the beginning, but I wasn’t fond of him when he broke up with America. I wasn’t angry for him to breaking up with her, but mostly the reason that he broke up with her. Just cause she could provide more than him? Seriously? To me, it seems if he loved her way he said he did, it wouldn’t matter. So to say I was happy he showed up at palace, I wasn’t too happy. But maybe the character will grow on me, in the next novel. As for Maxon, I felt like the two of them have a special connection. I enjoyed the fact that they haven’t fell for each other right from beginning, though I knew that Maxon had feelings from her, from start. I liked fact, how they were such good friends and how Maxon didn’t make the moves that he knew would make America uncomfortable. He was everything that I would want in the guy. I’m curious to see what happens between them next, and if he finds out about her and Aspen.

The Selection was an unique story, it was unlike any book that I read. It had such creative plot, each page had me on edge of my seat. I smiled, I laughed, I cried. If i could rate it more then 5 stars, i would. This is the book worth checking out. You won’t put down till you reach the last page.
