Have you ever come across a novel, you wished that you read earlier? That’s how I felt about Hourglass, . I had seen quite few good reviews about the book through months on goodreads. So, finally I came across it in library. I always enjoyed time travel novels. This was one of most addicting ones that I read. I could barely force myself to put the book down. Every page kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself eager to find out what happens next with all the characters, especially Emerson. If you like action, adventure and mystery, you are going love Hourglass.

 GOODREADS SUMMARY
For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn't there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents' death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She's tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson's willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may also change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he's around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened.

Hourglass was an amazing debut novel. Honestly, I had no idea that it was McEntire’s debut novel till after I finished the book. Everything about it was amazing, the writing, the plot and the storyline. Hourglass is fantasy, but the emotions, the descriptions that were displayed within the novel, made it feel everything so much more realistic to me. I felt like I was there with Emerson, besides her, going through everything that she was, feeling what she was. I felt myself able to connect to Emerson the most then the other characters. All the settings described, including when they traveled back in time, to save Kaleb’s father, were well written, that I could imagine it while reading, including the travel time. It’s fascinating, reading about the adventures; I had hard time putting this novel down. I didn’t want book to end, I wanted to see where their adventures would take them next.

Michael, Kaleb & Emerson: I loved them from the start. For Michael & Emerson, I knew that there was going be something between two of them, the moment that two of them met, especially when he told her, that he sees others, from past as well. I could tell that there was some sort of connection between the two of them. Even if Michael denied it at first, I knew he cared about her, considering the fact how he acted when Kaleb was flirting with Emerson, I could tell that he didn’t like it. He even went as far, to warn her even if Kaleb was his best friend. Now, Kaleb was different from Michael, he seemed more dangerous to me but I could see that there was some sort of tension between the two of them. I am curious if there be some sort of love triangle between the three of them, I’m eager to find out.

This is the type of book that have you craving for more after you read. That’s how I felt, I wanted to pick up the next book right after reading this one. I was happy that Emerson had a happy ending in way. At first I was hesitant about them being able to get Michael back. Even if it wasn’t all good news but at least Emerson and Michael reunited. If you enjoy adventure books or travel books, pick this one up.
